JJE Storybook ParadeOn October 28th, Joy James Elementary hosted their 3rd Annual Storybook Parade to cap off celebrations for Red Ribbon Week. To prepare for the parade, Pre-K through second grade students had been studying a chosen storybook in class; students not only participated in multiple reading activities involving their story, but they also created costumes representing the characters in their book to display during the parade. Older students in grades 3rd-5th served as mentors to the younger students by helping them study their stories, make their costumes, and by creating the banners for each class to march with. There was beautiful weather and sunny skies as the students excitedly showcased their storybook creations. Cheering parents, community members and our third through fifth grade students lined the sidewalks to support the parade. Storybooks of all genres and varieties were celebrated-from Pre-K’s Pete the Cat theme to the The Crayon Box that Quit to The 3 Ninja Pigs! Thanks to all our students’ hard work, and all our parents and staff who turned out to support us, this year’s Storybook Parade was a page-turning success!
